Les Vinyes del Convent Winery

Winery located in Horta de Sant Joan, Terra Alta, Tarragona year 2017

It is a space with a surface area of 10,655 m2 on which an old oil mill was located, now transformed into a winery with the latest technology. As its name indicates, honouring the convent of San Salvador, located in the same town, in its facilities there is a cloister, as well as a consecrated chapel. All newly built. The building with modern and sober lines adapts to the orography and the outdoor space, adapted to the wonderful views. On the one hand, to the Roques d’en Benet, looking towards Los Ports, distinguished by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve and on the other, towards the silhouette of Horta de Sant Joan, an image reproduced by Picasso in his works that marked the beginning of the period of geometric cubism.

The exterior space includes access to the main building with its chapel, cloister, museum and shop and the spaces that surround the rest of the facilities for industrial use, as well as for events.

The design includes the circulations for both people and for the vehicles of the activity. The two uses complement each other perfectly and the views change depending on the movement as the facilities are surrounded on all sides by the agricultural landscape. Parterres with low vegetation that provides volume and colour in contrast to the olive trees are as protagonists, as are the slopes that arise due to the two levels on which the facilities are located, which reproduce the natural landscape of the environment.

Without forgetting the pergola with 12 of 4 m high columns and the 1000 bottles arranged outside in the sun to obtain stale wine.

All the elements are part of a unit whose objective is to create a unique place with numerous nods to the history of the winery, its origins and the territory on which the winery and its vineyards are based.
